Description
A delightful Middle Eastern pastry made with crispy strands of dough, filled with creamy cheese, and drizzled with fragrant syrup.
Ingredients
- 500g Kunafa dough
- 100g Unsalted butter (melted)
- 250g Ricotta cheese
- 250g Shredded mozzarella cheese
- 200g Granulated sugar
- 250ml Water
- 1 tsp Rose water or orange blossom water
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease a large baking dish with melted butter.
- Blend ricotta and mozzarella in a mixing bowl.
- Spread half of the kunafa dough in the prepared dish and drizzle with melted butter.
- Spoon the cheese mixture over the kunafa layer.
- Top with the remaining kunafa dough and pour more melted butter on top.
- Bake for 30-40 minutes until golden brown.
- Combine sugar and water in a saucepan, bring to a boil, and simmer for 10 minutes; stir in rose or orange blossom water.
- Drizzle warm syrup over baked kunafa and let it soak for at least 15 minutes.
Notes
Ensure kunafa strands are fully thawed before use. Don’t skip the soaking time for the syrup to absorb into the kunafa.
